What is the Proper System for Below the Waterline?
 
  ANNUAL REPAINT BARE FIBERGLASS BARE WOOD BARE STEEL
PREP Scrub bottom clean at haul-out. Repaint only if old paint is sound and tight. If not, remove the old coating. Sand with 80 - 120 grit sandpaper. Dewax by using the Dewaxer. Remove and dissolve wax at once with clean paper towels or a rag. Repeat. Sand hard to a dull finish with 80 - 100 grit sandpaper. Fill any chips with KBS NuFill Epoxy Putty. Dry. Sand. If seams are not flush, fill them with seam compound. Dry several days until skin forms. Do not sand. Fill nicks with KBS NuFill Epoxy Filler. Dry. Sand. Sandblast surface to a near white metal. Remove blast residue with a broom and air hose. Wipe off with Dewaxer. Do not sand. Fill any imperfections with Fair Compound. Sand smooth and wipe clean
PRIME Prepare seams, nicks, and chips. Spot coat any scuffs with antifouling. Apply 1-2 coats of Bottom Protect Sealer. Sand with 80 grit sandpaper. Wipe down with Dewaxer. Apply 4-5 coats of Bottom Protect Primer. Apply reduced antifouling (about 10% with Reducer) for 1 full coat. Solvent wash with Dewaxer. Apply 4-5 coats of Bottom Protect Primer.
FINISH Apply 2-3 coats of antifouling bottom paint. Apply 2-3 coats of antifouling bottom paint. Apply 2-3 coats of antifouling bottom paint. Apply 2-3 coats of antifouling bottom paint.
